Sound radiation of vibrating structures is of interest in many engineering disciplines. When considering structures under free field conditions (exterior problem) the radiated sound can be calculated by the Boundary-Element-Method (BEM). Compared to the Finite-Element-Method (FEM) the standard BEM has the drawback of fully populated system matrices. Applying the H-Matrix approximation to the BEM leads to a fast Boundary-Element-Method that effectively reduces this drawback to a quasi linear complexity.

We discuss block approximation algorithms regarding their application to different acoustic problems. If the surrounding fluid is heavy (e.g. water), the dynamic structural behavior is affected by the fluid. In order to consider the mutual influence of the acoustic and the structure solver, a strong coupling of both solvers is required. We will present a reliable fluid-structure-coupling procedure for the H-Matrix BEM which is reliable for large scale vibro-acoustic problems. Finally this approach will be extended in order to deal with multi-fluid-vibro acoustic problems.
