EJC 2014: 24th International Conference on Information Modelling and Knowledge Bases

June 3-6, 2014 - Kiel, Germany    http://www.tut.fi/en/ejc/

Deadline for paper submission: January 12, 2014.

The series of European Japanese Conference on Information Modelling and Knowledge Bases (EJC) originally started as a co-operation initiative between Japan and Finland in 1982. The practical operations were then organized by professor Setsuo Ohsuga in Japan and professors Hannu Kangassalo and Hannu Jaakkola in Finland (Nordic countries). Geographical scope has expanded to cover Europe and also other countries. Workshop characteristic - discussion, time enough for presentations and limited number of participants (50) / papers (30) - is typical to the conference. Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
1. Conceptual modelling: Modelling and specification languages; Domain-specific conceptual modelling; Concepts, concept theories and ontologies; Conceptual modelling of large and heterogeneous systems; Conceptual modelling of spatial, temporal and biological data; Methods for developing, validating and communicating conceptual models.
2. Knowledge and information modelling and discovery: Knowledge discovery, knowledge representation and knowledge management; Advanced data mining and analysis methods; Conceptions of knowledge and information;Modelling information requirements; Intelligent information systems; Information recognition and information modelling.
3. Linguistic modelling: Models of HCI; Information delivery to users; Intelligent informal querying; Linguistic foundation of information and knowledge; Fuzzy linguistic models; Philosophical and linguistic foundations of conceptual models.
4. Cross-cultural communication and social computing: Cross-cultural support systems; Integration, evolution and migration of systems; Collaborative societies; Multicultural web-based software systems; Intercultural collaboration and support systems; Social computing, behavioral modeling and prediction.
5. Environmental modelling and engineering: Environmental information systems (architecture); Spatial, temporal and observational information systems; Large-scale environmental systems; Collaborative knowledge base systems;Agent concepts and conceptualisation; Hazard prediction, prevention and steering systems.
6. Multimedia data modelling and systems: Modelling multimedia information and knowledge; Content-based multimedia data management; Content-based multimedia retrieval; Privacy and context enhancing technologies;Semantics and pragmatics of multimedia data; Metadata for multimedia information systems.

EJC (European Japanese Conference on Information Modelling and Knowledge Bases) is defined as the selection process of the final journal-paper publication in "Information Modelling and Knowledge Bases" by the EJC Organization and Program Committee of "International Conference on Information Modelling and Knowledge Bases" .
The papers selected as journal papers are published in the Series of "Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence" by IOS Press (Amsterdam) after the conference for international distributions. The books "Information Modelling and Knowledge Bases Vol. n" are edited by the Editing Committee of the conference. Improved papers must be sent by
Sept. 15th in 2014, after the conference. Each of the position papers is reviewed in the presentation and the improved version by Program Committee, whether or not it can be accepted as the final journal print.
In EJC 2014, the proceedings of the conference will be published in the Kiel Computer Science Series (http://www.informatik.uni-kiel.de/kcss/ (with ISSN)).

Submission of Papers

Send the paper electronically according to the instructions for registering, formatting and submitting on the page
The submission must be original, and must not be submitted anywhere else, or already accepted by any other conference or journal. The selection of papers is made on the basis of review, by the program committee. Acceptance of papers will be based on the originality of work, on the suitability of the topic to the conference, and on the overall quality of your submission.

Working principles of the conference

The authors must present their papers at the conference. The papers are included in the conference (local) preprint. Only selected papers will be published in the final journal publication. The final text of the papers can be polished for publication after the conference. The final journal papers will be published by an international publisher (IOS Press, Amsterdam) after the conference.
The total number of participants is limited to 50. The final text of the full and short papers can be polished as journal papers for publication after the conference. Each of the
position papers are proposed to improve to take into account the comments in the conference (if any) and the statement of the reviewers. Programme committee has right to withdraw the paper from the final journal publication, if the proposed improvements are not implemented or if the paper is not technically prepared according to the formatting
